What is a quilting template?

Templates are used as a guide to let you easily follow a pattern for your quilting. You have a stylus that drops down into the groove of the pattern on the template,  then you lock down the stylus so it does not come out of that groove. Now you move your machine on the carriage and your stylus will only let your carriage go in the groove of the design. So whatever design you choose is what the machine is going to stitch.

The Doodling Design templates are made out of durable plastic that we have drawn a pattern on the computer and put into a computerized router to cut a groove of that pattern. What makes our templates different is that the groove is wider, deeper, and rounded on the bottom than most other templates. The templates also has rubber liner on the back of them to help keep the template in place.

We offer template designs that are cut into a 10" square, 2 foot by 7 ½" wide boards, and also 4 foot by 7 ½" boards. The 10" squares can have one large design – which are usually about a 9-9 ½" designs, it can have several smaller designs which are usually about 3 ½", or it can have the same design repeated in the different sizes. These can be used to echo each other, but also are designed to give you the size that you need for all different sizes of blocks. The 2 and 4 foot templates have either one fancy design or at least 2 designs that are approximately 3 ½".
